01/03/06 - Matador™: Managing the Broadcast Infrastructure
Belfast , Northern Ireland (December 21, 2005) - FBBT (Fighting Bull Broadcast Technology (UK) Ltd.) has announced the appointment of Chris Daubney to the company's CEO Advisory Group. Daubney joins Dr. Jim Lyons and Adrian Scott on the Group, and will focus on strategic and operational issues.
FBBT is the creator of Matador, the first Operational Support System for broadcasters. Matador won a prestigious "Best of IBC" Award from TVB Europe Magazine at IBC 2005. The system, developed under a Joint Collaboration Agreement with the BBC, "simplifies the complex" by collecting, displaying, organizing, consolidating and leveraging network data from production, playout and transmission systems.
Unlike output monitoring tools deployed by the media industry today which monitor only specific devices or segments of the infrastructure, Matador is the first solution to:
Dynamically generate a unified view of the entire server-based broadcasting service chain.
Support business decision-makers with powerful MIS records.
Provide a unique intuitive 3D user interface which visualizes both real-time and historical events. |
Following the successful deployment of Matador at BBC Northern Ireland in November, FBBT is focused on managing growth driven by sales, marketing and strategic planning.
Chris Daubney is one of the best-known figures in the broadcast industry, and uniquely has held leading positions as regulator, broadcaster, and manufacturer. From 1973-1988 he filled various roles at the Independent Broadcasting Authority, the former UK independent broadcast regulator, where he rose to become Assistant Director of Engineering. In 1988 he became Chief Engineer at Channel 4, and presided over the building of the Channel's new HQA in London, one of the world's first all-digital TV operations. After a year as Director of Strategic Planning of Samsung's Electronics Research Institute, Chris became Managing Director of Panasonic Broadcast Europe.
Since 1999 he has run his own highly successful consultancy. He is Chairman of the Royal Television Society's Technology Committee. "FBBT has reached an exciting stage in its growth," says Daubney. "Now is the time to ensure that strategic and operational planning keeps up with the considerable market demand created by Matador, which uniquely presents broadcasters with the ability to run their operations as bottom-line focused businesses. Efficiency, performance, optimization, and management are the focus of successful players in broadcasting today. FBBT practices the qualities it delivers to its customers; I'm excited to be working with them."
Rick Bolin, FBBT's CEO, says "Chris has a proven track record of successfully building, running and managing broadcasting businesses. I am thrilled to have his focused turned onto FBBT. Strategic and tactical plans for 2006 and beyond will benefit from his experience."
